So Who Are We?

A little about me…..

I am a presbyterian minister, but have started the journey to return home to the church of my childhood, the Episcopal Church.  I’m the journey of discernment will make it into these pages every now and again.  As I navigate this journey, I am working in development for non-profits.  Currently, a non-profit that does child sponsorship in Haiti and Uganda called World of God.  I’m also helping a good friend of mine set-up his own non-profit called 100 Love Notes Foundation.  They are both part-time and I love the flexibility of that, especially as I enter this new role of wife.

I have been a Lupus Thriver since I was twelve years old.  I have lived my life to the fullest because I know one day I may not be able to do all I want.  It is starting to catch-up to me a bit and find I’m a little slower these days than I once was.  I also had some cancer cells on my cervix last year.  Luckily, nothing has return.

I am very active in my community serving on several boards and volunteering with children when I can.  I love to be crafty and hoping now that I’m working part-time, I can work more on sewing and painting.  My favorite thing in the world to do is host parties for my friends.  I hold the best tailgates in the SEC.  My annual spring crawfish boil is becoming pretty famous.

About him....

He's a commercial real estate broker, who was a true bachelor before we meet (did not own a pot or frying pan).  He loves wine, Ole Miss Football, and Music.  He recently joined the board of a local after school program, Wings for Kids.   He loves his family and is probably the most loyal person I know.

In the Beginning...

It finally happened after 35+ some odd years of waiting, I’m engaged!  Not only am I engaged, I’m engaged to a man that is truly my best friend.  The person if I had my choice of anyone in the world to spent time with, it would be him.  The person who even in the most stressful of times can me feel relaxed and happy.  I feel truly blessed.

I had told him for over a year that I needed six months to plan a wedding, so on June 1st, he gave me 7.  We will be getting married on NYE 2016 at Kanuga Conference Center.  One of my favorite places in the world.  There are a lot of details to work out, but in the end we will be married and that’s what is important.

One of the things we committed to the night we got engaged was that we would always remember that most importantly, “It’s the marriage that's important.”  We’ve already found ourselves saying that in our first two months of engagement, but staying focused on the marriage will be a life-long journey.  Kids will come (hopefully quickly — we are closer to 40 than 35), jobs will be stressful, family will drive us nuts, and million other things will come along that will try to distract us from keeping our marriage first.  Our commitment on that night was that we wouldn’t allow anything to in the way of our marriage.  All those other things are important, but having a strong healthy marriage will make all of those other things better, any trial we face easier, and make sure in the end we are never alone.

I know this will be an adventure.  I, also, know that are many other people out there on the same journey.  So, I thought that now was the time to try to blog again — never had much luck as a single gal.  I will share funny stories, reflections, struggles, and hopefully a little light at times.  While I hope others enjoy reading this, my ultimate hope is this practice will help me remember, “It’s the marriage that's important ”
